Since I'm watching this a couple months later (and don't have Instagram anyway), what was the 5th ingredient and who won?
This episode was soo cringy, i felt their torture... I love belacan in my food but no South East t Asian human will ever eat belacan uncooked. When you first drop it in the hot pan the smell is vile but once it's cooked and infused with the other ingredients it's actually aromatic and taste great... And you're supposed to stir the Natto until it becomes creamy, then eat it...hehe

Do the famous Austrian beer cheese, the strongest one (imo) is „Pinzga Kas“ or „Pinzgauer Käse“. It’s a delicacy around here and i have to say i quite like it with Spaetzle. However, if you are not used to it, the smell is pungent and offputting.

You just HAVE to use japanese mustard (karashi), soy sauce and some leek or spring onions with nattou. That way, it's bloody delicious and easily one of my favourite toppings for rice in the morning

When using belacan, wrap the required portion in foil and roast it at 180C for around 10mins, or until you can start to smell it. Then add to your curry paste base!

I loooove century eggs! They're not good for your health to eat too much or too frequently though, so I limit myself to one egg per week. Also fermented shrimp is marvelous in soups and as a dip for boiled or fried food. Usually I prefer it sweetened with some sugar and a squeeze of fresh lime.

I grew up in a Chinese household that had century eggs for breakfast basically every day. I did not realize until now that century eggs can be considered a "challenge" food. I really love century eggs though but maybe it is a developed taste.

Natto to me isn’t offensive. I just think it’s super bland and then I don’t like the texture. It didn’t make me gag when I had it but I didn’t eat more than a couple of bites because it just wasn’t enjoyable.

I remember when I lived in Sweden... My Swedish girlfriend wanted to treat me with an Swedish specialty.... So I was in the living room on the couch minding my own business while my girl prepared.... Sürstroming... She opened the can and I immediately sensed the rotten odour of it and went to the kitchen to see what went bad.... According to my girlfriend nothing it has to be like that.... I'm Japanese-American and I grew up with natto. While it's not the grossest fermented food in the world, I absolutely cannot stand it. Most of my family eats it and I just hate it.

If you haven't had surstromming before it tastes like the smell of an outdoor bin in a hot summer times 100. Eating it will ruin about a week of your life. I wasn't as lucky as these guys and the fish in the tin I ate had actually almost entirely dissolved leaving mostly bones and roe. If any food deserves a do not try this at home warning its this. eat outdoors, if you must. Do it for charity, the 30 or so people watching me watched me and my boss do it for a dare and we spun up the charity idea as an afterthought and got nearly £500 just because they were in smell vicinity. but try it now if you must. Young Swedish people (where it comes from) wont eat it so you may soon not get the chance. Forgot to say they all impressed me with the amount they ate. I can imagine going in for a second bite though, when your already completely on fire, you don't notice more fire.
